Richard Attenborough was born in Cambridge on August 29th 1923 and educated at Wyggeston Grammar School Leicester, he went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). His London stage debut was in 1942 in Ah Wilderness. His screen debut was in the same year in Noel Coward's In Which We Serve. He married actress Sylvia Sim in 1945. His roles in films of the 1940s are of exceptional quality and usually unsympathetic, in In Which We Serve he plays a coward, in Brighton Rock a vicious gang leader and in London Belongs To Me a suspected murderer. His career has continued to grow from strength to strength beyond our period of research.
