Dirk Bogarde began his film career in 1939 after a theatrical debut the same year,
however the war interrupted his work and he did not return to the screen until 1947.
Capable in a wide variety of roles from the vicious hood which earned him his fame in
The Blue Lamp, through comedy, psychological and character roles. He became
something of a heart-throb in the 50s and later took on more villainous roles to try
to counter this image.
