Born Joan Summerfield in London, June 29th 1921. She was a dancer from the age of 11
and then later for a time was a chorus girl at the Windmill Theatre in London.
Her first real break (there were bit parts before this) came in "It's That
Man Again" (1942). She went on to be a familiar face in many major movies during the
1940's and 50's, generally cast as spiteful hussies or femmes fetales.
