Hugh Williams played many varied roles throughout the 30s and 40s
but was perhaps at his best as unsuccessful crooks and boys you wouldn't
take home to your mother. He really was 5 foot 10 and a half
(Bank Holiday 1938). Made some films in Hollywood in the early
talkie era as a result of appearing on Broadway and had a contract with
Fox in the mid 30s. He returned to England and the stage in 1936. He became
a playwright and collaborated with his wife Margaret Vyner on several of these.
