Perhaps better known for her performances in Hollywood, it is often forgotten that Ida Lupino was in fact English! She was born in London on February the 4th 1918, the daughter of the English stage and screen comedian Stanley Lupino. She trained at RADA (Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts) in London and starred in several British films before disappearing to Hollywood in 1934, to become a successful actress and director in her own right. For a time in the 1930's she was a blonde (as in the picture which shows her near the start of her professional career) but later changed to brunette. More to come...
